“The American identity has come into conflict with the Christian identity.”
“We are at a moment of reckoning for individual Christians and the Church as a whole.”
When you read the book, reach out. I’d love to know what you think.
There aren’t too many moments in my past where I can return fully in my mind – in my memory – to a point in time. Today I share one of them. It was an evening concert in the mid 1990’s offered by a large church in Plano, Texas. I was “on fire for the LORD” if you know what I mean. My life was changing for the better. I had become consistent in attending church and Bible studies. I was being transformed from the inside, out. As Ray Boltz sang I stood with my right hand in the air and tears streaming down my face. “I pledge allegiance to the Lamb.” That moment in time is as significant – wait, more significant – than my profession of faith in 1994. I had many holy moments where the Holy Spirit was moving in my life during those years inviting me into this sweet journey called faith. But this moment was different. As I was singing these words, I knew I meant it.And I still do. I think that’s why I struggle with the pledge of allegiance.I just can’t.My complete allegiance is to Jesus Christ. It isn’t “God and Country.”It’s God. Period. Pastor Linda ——- [Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross. And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him, provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. Colossians 1:15-23 |
